Beckham Putra, a Persib Bandung player, emphasised the importance of maintaining eating patterns during Ramadan to keep his performance at its peak on the pitch. For him, Ramadan is not merely a religious obligation but a test of professionalism. He realises that proper nutrition and rest are the main ‘fuel’ to consistently perform at the highest level in matches, with Persib playing five games this Ramadan. ‘We must look after our meals and our rest. It adds energy. Especially with so many games this Ramadan—five important fixtures. We must really stay focused to achieve maximum results,’ Beckham said, quoted by Persib’s official site on Thursday. Beckham admitted that Ramadan’s typical foods for breaking the fast are quite tempting to his palate. However, he chooses not to eat Iftar or Sahur dishes indiscriminately, because he realises nutritional balance is a determining factor to prevent his physical condition from dipping after breaking the fast. The 24-year-old then described his home eating routine, noting that he is now into his second year with his wife. ‘My wife’s special dish is chicken, but as a match approaches, I have to reduce fried foods. Only after the match is finished can meals be a bit freer. I hope that through observing this fasting period we can bring blessings and win again,’ Beckham said. This season, Beckham has only missed two matches out of a total of 23 fixtures for the Blue Princes in the BRI Super League. From his 21 appearances, Beckham has recorded two goals and three assists for Persib, who currently lead the standings with 54 points.
