Bechi’s Conditional Release for Sexual Violence Conviction Revoked
The conditional release of Muhammad Subchi Azal Tsani, also known as Mas Bechi, who was convicted of sexually abusing and raping a female student at an Islamic boarding school, has been revoked by the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas).
The son of a cleric in Jombang, East Java, had previously been granted conditional release on 15 August 2026 for good behaviour.
After the release was revoked, Bechi was returned to Malang Class I Prison to serve his prison sentence.
Fathorrosi, head of the Malang Class I Probation and Correctional Centre (Bapas), said the centre received the decision revoking Bechi’s conditional-release programme from the East Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections earlier this week.
“We received the decision revoking the release of our client through the East Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections on Tuesday, 6 October 2026,” Fathorrosi told reporters on Thursday (8 January).
The centre informed Bechi of the revocation when he reported to it as required today. He was then taken back to Malang Prison.
“Today, the person concerned, our client named Bechi, came in to report as required. We communicated the decision to him in a persuasive manner, and today we also took him directly to Malang Prison, with assistance from prison officers,” Fathorrosi said.
The Malang probation centre had previously said Bechi’s conditional release was granted in accordance with applicable legislation, including Law No. 22 of 2022 on Corrections.
Bechi, who was serving a sentence for sexual abuse and rape, had served two-thirds of his term and had behaved well, making him eligible for consideration for conditional release.
A series of procedures had to be completed before the release could be granted, including an assessment by the Correctional Observers Team together with Malang Class I Prison.
The conditional release was then authorised through a ministerial decision, which was forwarded to the Malang probation centre for the subsequent procedures.
Bechi was sentenced to seven years in prison and had served nearly three years, including time at Malang Class I Prison.
Christo Victor Nixon Toar, then head of Malang Class I Prison, previously said Bechi’s conditional release was not a unilateral decision, but was based on careful consideration and an official recommendation from the Correctional Observers Team.
During his time behind bars at Malang Class I Prison, Bechi was assessed as having shown positive behavioural changes and a cooperative attitude.
Christo said Bechi, who had been detained since 8 July 2022, was held at several facilities before being transferred to Malang Class I Prison.
His active participation in all stages of rehabilitation was an important factor in assessing his eligibility for conditional release.
