Becak Drivers Welcome "Leave Allowance" of Rp 1.4 Million: First Time Receiving Compensation from Governor
Several becak drivers at Pasar Minggu market in Cirebon Regency, West Java have received compensation from West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi to cease work during the exodus and return period for Eid al-Fitr 1447 H. They have expressed willingness to comply with the governor’s directive.
One becak driver, Taslim, stated he was pleased with the compensation he received, valued at Rp 1.4 million. “This is the first year I have received compensation from the Governor,” he said on Saturday (14 March 2026).
Taslim indicated his readiness to observe the voluntary work suspension policy from seven days before to seven days after Eid al-Fitr, or a total of 14 days. During this period, he will not operate his becak in the Pasar Baru area of Cirebon Regency.
“Thank you, we will comply because we have already received the compensation. The money will be used to pay zakat fitrah and to buy clothes for my children,” he stated.
According to Taslim, the compensation from the West Java Regional Government is considerably higher than his earnings when operating. He typically earns an average of Rp 50,000 per day from operating his becak. On quiet days, he may not earn any fares at all.
