There are many ways to welcome the holy month of Ramadan. One of them is through a decorative lights parade that beautifies the city center, as has been done in London.

On Friday, 13 February 2026, London Mayor Sadiq Khan inaugurated the lighting of signs reading “Ramadan Lights” in the West End area. He explained that the lights will remain up throughout the month of Ramadan, or for approximately one full month.

The “Happy Ramadan” decorations are funded by the Aziz Foundation, a charitable organization that provides grants and scholarships for the Muslim community in the United Kingdom. Beyond the main lights, several buildings in the surrounding area will also be illuminated in green—a color synonymous with Islam—to add to the festive atmosphere.

At the inauguration, Sadiq stated that the Ramadan Lights serve as a symbol of diversity in London.

“It’s wonderful to be part of this lighting celebration. It’s a symbol of what kind of city we are. We are an inclusive, open city that is proud to celebrate all the communities that are here,” he said.

In a post on his social media, the London Mayor also shared about the event.

“Ramadan Lights are shining bright again in the West End. For the next month, these beautiful lights will celebrate Ramadan and serve as a symbol of pride that our capital welcomes and celebrates diversity,” he wrote on his social media account.

The Labour Muslim Network also praised the initiative for highlighting Britain as an open, positive, and compassionate place.

“Ramadan Lights in central London don’t just illuminate the capital—they also spread the light that exists across all our communities. These lights showcase the open, positive, and compassionate side of Britain,” the group said.

The celebrations won’t end with Ramadan alone. On 18 March, the Ramadan Lights signage will be changed to read “Happy Eid.” The lights will remain in place until the evening of 24 March.

For reference, this annual celebration, now in its fourth year, will feature more than 30,000 energy-efficient LED lights that will be switched on daily from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

One of the trustees at the Aziz Foundation, Rahima Aziz, said that London’s Ramadan Lights are an open invitation for anyone, of all faiths and backgrounds, to come together and experience the values at the heart of Ramadan.
