Beachfront residents to be evicted

PALU, Central Sulawesi: As many as 112 low-income families dwelling along the beachfront area here are in danger of being evicted because their homes violate the city's spatial plan.

The head of the city planning office, Gusti Alam Saad, claimed Monday that the city's blueprints designate the beachfront area as a greenbelt.

He maintained that the houses there were built illegally and without appropriate permits.

But, as quoted by Antara, Gusti said the city administration would still compensate residents and try to relocate them to another residential area.

Gusti did not say how soon the city administration intends to relocate them or to which part of city. (mds)
