Beach volleyball debuts in Atlanta

JAKARTA (JP): Bali has been named one of the 29 stops of the
world two-a-side men's and women's beach volleyball championships
series this season, in which top spikers are vying for berths at
the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.

The international volleyball federation announced recently
that the best 32 men's teams and 24 women's teams will lock horns
at the end of the season for 24 and 16 Olympic tickets
respectively. Beach volleyball will be making its Olympic debut
as a full-fledge medal event in Atlanta.

The championships series will kick off in Marbella, Spain on
Friday and run through Sunday. A whopping US$3.6 million in prize
money is up for grabs this year. (amd)
