Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Thousand Islands Regency Government (Pemkab) through the Water Resources Sub-Department (Sudin SDA) of the Thousand Islands Regency is carrying out beach restoration on the northern side of the Love Bridge, Tidung Island Village, South Thousand Islands, to recover its condition impacted by abrasion. “This action is carried out to restore the beach that has experienced abrasion while increasing tourism attractiveness,” said the Head of Sudin SDA Thousand Islands, Mustajab, in Jakarta on Monday. He said the activity is part of coastal area maintenance by returning the eroded beach sand due to abrasion. According to Mustajab, this effort is also carried out to return the lost beach sand. “The blue troops take sand from the middle of the sea and then return it to the beach area,” he said. Mustajab explained that to prevent the sand from eroding again, his side has also installed geobags along the restored area. He said the work that started from early March is targeted to cover 200 metres. “We hope that in the future there will be more beaches with stretches of white sand that can be enjoyed, thus able to support the tourism sector in the Thousand Islands,” he added. Meanwhile, the Head of the Beach Section of Sudin SDA Thousand Islands, Wahyu Maulana, said his side is also carrying out seawall arrangement using massive cubes at the same location. “The previous seawall experienced damage, so re-arrangement is carried out along approximately 200 metres,” he explained. According to him, the seawall will later be concreted and functioned as a pedestrian path as well as a relaxation spot for residents and tourists. As of now, the work progress has reached more than 50 percent or about 110 metres. After that, the area in front of the seawall will also be planted with mangroves as a natural protection effort against abrasion and to maintain the balance of the coastal ecosystem. “We invite the community to help maintain the development results by not damaging facilities and keeping the beach environment clean, so that the area remains comfortable, safe, and sustainable,” he said.
