Be Wary of Motorcycle Theft Ahead of Eid, Avoid These Road Conditions
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The increased mobility of the public ahead of Eid is not only impacting traffic congestion but also increasing the risk of crime on the roads. Motorcyclists travelling at night are a more vulnerable group, especially on quiet roads with poor lighting. Head of Safety Riding Promotion at PT Wahana Makmur Sejati, Agus Sani, emphasised that riding a motorcycle at night requires extra vigilance. Agus advised motorcyclists to always use safe riding gear. Standard helmets, jackets, gloves, and other safety equipment not only protect against accidents but also provide a sense of confidence when travelling in dark conditions. In addition, choosing a familiar route is very important. “Choose routes that you are familiar with so that if something happens, it will be easier to find help. Avoid routes that are prone to crime and try to choose busy roads,” said Agus. Motorcyclists also need to remain focused and vigilant towards other vehicles that suddenly approach or behave suspiciously. This kind of vigilance is important to anticipate potential criminal tactics. Agus emphasised that riders travelling alone on quiet roads should not ride too slowly. “Try not to ride too slowly if you are travelling alone. If possible, stay safe by travelling with other vehicles when passing through dangerous roads,” he said. Equally important, riders must be wary of tactics that exploit the victim’s empathy, such as pretending to ask for help on a quiet road. “If you see someone lying down or asking for help, it is best to avoid them and seek other help. This is to prevent the tactics of thieves,” said Agus. KOMPAS.com is committed to providing clear, trustworthy, and balanced facts.
