'Back to the Future': Fujitsu Offers Infinite Way
Arriving from Japan with a mission to develop the Indonesian Information and Communications Technology (ICT) markets in the 1980s, Fujitsu might not have expected to immediately grab major projects in the country's ICT sector.
Their hardships in the initial stages of putting down roots in the Indonesian market was fully rewarded with prestigious telecommunication projects, including the Jakarta Junction Network System, Microwave Systems and the Java-Borneo (Kalimantan) Submarine Cable Link.
Its success in carrying out those projects encouraged Japan- based Fujitsu Limited to put down even deeper roots in Indonesia. Forging a partnership with PT Askomindo Dinamika, Fujitsu set up a joint venture company, PT Fujitsu Systems Indonesia, in 1995.
Headquartered in Jakarta with service points in big cities such as Semarang, Surabaya, Denpasar and Pekanbaru, the company has nurtured its vision to be a leading customer-focused ICT solutions provider in Indonesia.
Over time, Fujitsu Systems Indonesia has gained a reputation as a provider of one-stop, end-to-end products, solutions and services, including high-quality notebook PC and mission-critical servers, business and manufacturing applications and ICT infrastructure.
After 10 years of providing high-technological and innovative products to the Indonesian market, Fujitsu officially announced a new name for its Indonesian operations from Fujitsu Systems Indonesia to PT Fujitsu Indonesia.
"This new name, Fujitsu Indonesia, represents one Fujitsu in Indonesia," Takafumi Mikuni, President Director of PT Fujitsu Indonesia, told 350 business partners, customers and government representatives attending Fujitsu Indonesia's 10-year anniversary celebration on November 29, 2005, at the five-star Hotel Mulia in Jakarta.
Supported by 150 employees with various areas of expertise and certifications, Fujitsu Indonesia actively carries out projects in various sectors and industries, including the telecommunications, manufacturing, government, oil and finance.
The company applies complete and integrated solutions consisting not only of hardware, including servers, storage systems, PCs and peripherals, but also ERP and human resources software.
"Our plan in the coming months is to maintain our growth by providing comprehensive solutions for the Indonesian market. We will also introduce sophisticated Fujitsu technology," added Mikuni, who considers Indonesia a potential market with only one or two serious competitors, which can offer one-stop, end-to-end ICT solutions.
Global Support
As part of the Japan-based information and communication technology (ICT) company, Fujitsu Indonesia has strong backing from Fujitsu's global network, which spreads to every corner of the globe, from Asia and Oceania to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. The company has sales and service operations in more than 70 countries.
Originally established in Japan in 1935 under the name Fuji Tsushinki Manufacturing Corp., the company changed its name to Fujitsu Limited in 1962. In the course of its worldwide expansion, Fujitsu strategically expanded its realm with Fujitsu Services Holdings (originally International Computers Limited), Fujitsu Computer Systems Corp (originally Amdahl Corp.), and Fujitsu Consulting (originally DMR Group Inc.), with more than 151,000 total employees.
Driven by technological innovations and business commitments, Fujitsu offers complete satisfaction for all customers, including half of the Fortune Global 500 companies. Listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and FTSE4Good Index Series, Fujitsu is recognized as an IT industry leader in sustainability and corporate responsibility.
The key to Fujitsu's success is its top-notch technology development, which it accomplishes by investing more than 5 percent of its revenue back into research. With the full support of management, Fujitsu carries out cutting-edge research and development, ranging from IT services up to computing and telecommunications systems, as well as in supporting fields such as electronic devices and material technologies.
The fruits of Fujitsu's research and development have won international recognition. Its industry-leading microelectronic technology grabbed the most prestigious award at Nano Tech 2005. Fujitsu also developed the world's fist contact-less palm vein authentication technology, which received the Wall Street Journal's 2005 Innovation Award for Security in Networks, and also the prestigious CES 'Best of Innovations' Award for PalmSecure Biometric Technology.
In addition, Fujitsu has developed advanced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology that enables long-distance identification and fast, accurate and secure verification. The company also produced the world's first film substrate-based bendable color electronic paper with an image memory function. Fujitsu has also developed organic computing with the world's first single-chip 10 Gbit/s ethernet switch chip.
Alliances
Fujitsu has also developed strong alliances with other leading global players to enhance its competitive offerings in open system environments. These alliances include a joint product development and supply alliance with Sun Microsystems, Inc. in the UNIX/SPARC server field.
The company also collaborates with Microsoft and Red Hat, Inc. in the development of mission-critical servers. Other collaborations include joint innovations with SAP AG to deliver adaptive computing infrastructure, and a strategic alliance with Cisco Systems, Inc. in the router and switch field.
All of these innovations and collaborations with world-class ICT players have enabled Fujitsu to offer a full range of professional services, including consultation, system design and development, project management and system integration, maintenance and training.
The company has dedicated professionals with the technical know-how and years of hands-on experience in various operating systems, databases, development tools and application solutions to provide customized solutions to meet the needs of individual customers.
The Fujitsu Way
Customers might be impressed by the infinite possibilities of Fujitsu's wide range of products and services. These possibilities originate from the company's philosophy: The Fujitsu Way.
Introduced in 2002, The Fujitsu Way is the core set of principles guiding the corporate and individual actions of the Fujitsu Group and its continuing development as good global corporate citizens.
A common understanding of Fujitsu's mission, values and code of conduct serves as the standard governing individual employees' business activities, as well as the driving force behind the company's socially responsible business strategy and the inspiration for related company-wide activities, business policies and plans.
