BDO in Indonesia Announces Net-Zero Targets Approved by Science Based Targets Initiative
Jakarta – Accounting, tax, and business consultancy firm BDO in Indonesia has announced that its science-based short-term and long-term greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets have been officially validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Chief Executive Officer of BDO in Indonesia, Thano Tanubrata, stated that this achievement marks a significant milestone in the firm’s sustainability journey towards a net-zero economy. “As a professional firm, we recognise that our responsibility extends beyond delivering the best services to our clients. It also includes ensuring our operations align with global efforts to limit global warming. This is a long-term commitment for our shared future,” Thano said in a statement on Monday, 15 June 2026.
He explained that SBTi has evaluated and approved BDO in Indonesia’s science-based net-zero targets with the following details: BDO in Indonesia commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2025 base year, and to measure and reduce its Scope 3 emissions. The firm also commits to achieving net-zero by 2050, which includes reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050 from a 2025 base year.
“The approval of our climate targets by SBTi is tangible proof of BDO in Indonesia’s commitment to leading the transition towards sustainable business practices,” Thano added.
Highlighting this from a strategic and client service perspective, ESG Partner Johan Sebastian emphasised that the SBTi validation demonstrates the firm’s resolve to lead by example. “As consultants who help various companies transition towards sustainable business practices, it is crucial for us to first measure, manage, and credibly reduce our own carbon footprint,” Johan said. “We hope this concrete step by BDO in Indonesia will inspire and encourage more businesses in Indonesia to jointly accelerate their decarbonisation agendas in a structured and measurable way.”
