BDF expands plant
JAKARTA (JP): The ministry of health's director general of drug and food control, Sampurno, inaugurated on Monday the expansion of factory and warehouse facilities of pharmaceutical, medical devices and cosmetic producer PT Beiersdorf Indonesia (BDF) in Singosari, Malang, East Java.
BDF's president Robert Menzies said the expansion was necessary to enable the company to meet the increasing local market demands as well as an increase in exports to other Asian countries by 50 percent.
"We are convinced and very optimistic that the Indonesian economic conditions will eventually improve. That is the reason we have invested Rp 20 billion (US$1.88 million) for the expansion of our factories. With the new facilities, our production capacity will be doubled," Menzies said.
He said the expansion projects included the addition of new factory facilities for its adhesive wound covering Hansaplast and skin care product Nivea.
BDF Indonesia, established in 1976, is a subsidiary of German pharmaceutical giant Beiersdorf AG. (gis)
