Day 7: Conflict in Aceh

Aceh Besar: Five ministers, led by Coordinating Minister for
People's Welfare Jusuf Kalla, visited a state high school in
Darul Imarah, Aceh Besar.

Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle shot and killed a
civilian, M. Jamal, at a coffee stall in Lam Cot, Aceh Besar.
Jamal's son, Brig. M. Yusuf, was killed at the same stall last
year.

GAM deputy commander for Nasi Island, Asrizal, surrendered to the
TNI.

North Aceh: The TNI arrested a suspected GAM official, Sofyan
Bachri, at Ujung Belang village in Banda Sakti district, North
Aceh.

Soldiers shot and killed two suspected GAM rebels at Panggoi
village, North Aceh, after the two attempted to escape arrest.

The military exploded aerial bombs in Lhokseumawe to demoralize
GAM rebels in the area.

Central Aceh: Residents of Sukajadi village, Peusang district,
Central Aceh, clashed with GAM rebels, with three rebels and one
villager, Sumardji, dying in the clash.
