Correction: In the article Businesspeople concerned by govt
economic performance published on Thursday, we misquoted Stanley
Lee as saying ".... (the tax officials) are just trying to
blackmail taxpayers...". Mr. Lee responds: "Our factory has been
in operation for 30 years in Jakarta and we are facing problems
with tax regulations concerning the bonded zone. We have been
advised that because of conflicting interpretations, we have been
penalized and must pay Rp 2.6 billion. From where do we get this
money to pay, because most of our overseas customers are
operating within the bonded zone and are tax free." We apologize
for the error.
