BCA Syariah Strengthens Low-Cost Funding Sources Amid Cumulative BI-Rate Hike
PT Bank BCA Syariah (BCA Syariah) is strengthening its collection of low-cost funds (current account savings account/CASA) and enhancing creativity in attracting customers, following a cumulative 75 basis point (bps) increase in the BI-Rate to 5.5 percent. President Director of BCA Syariah, Yuli Melati Suryaningrum, acknowledged that the BI-Rate hike will put pressure on the cost of funds. “Of course there is. There definitely is (an impact from the BI-Rate hike on the cost of funds),” Yuli said when answering reporters’ questions in Jakarta on Monday. Yuli stated that the company will fundamentally follow the policies set by the authorities, including those related to the benchmark interest rate (BI-Rate) increase. “We must follow. Whatever it is, it is for the good of this country, so of course we must be part of the conditions,” she said. When asked about the effect of easing geopolitical tensions between Iran and the United States, Yuli viewed that the banking industry still faces various challenges, particularly regarding domestic economic conditions and the purchasing power of the lower-middle class. Nevertheless, the company remains optimistic about future business prospects, considering that Indonesia is still seen as a potential market by business players and investors. Therefore, Yuli assessed that growth opportunities remain open, although industry players must continue to closely observe economic dynamics and changes in market conditions. “So prospects still exist, it’s just that we have to be more responsive and scrutinise the dynamics more closely,” Yuli said. Based on the company’s financial report, BCA Syariah’s total third-party funds (DPK) reached Rp15.17 trillion as of May 2026, growing 15.7 percent year-on-year (yoy). Meanwhile, financing distribution grew 20.4 percent (yoy) to Rp13.12 trillion as of May 2026. On an industry level, based on records from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) as of April 2026, the banking industry’s DPK grew 11.39 percent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp10,077 trillion, with current accounts, deposits, and savings growing 16.99 percent (yoy), 8.65 percent (yoy), and 9.00 percent (yoy), respectively. In the same period, banking industry lending grew 9.98 percent (yoy) to Rp8,755 trillion. Bank Indonesia (BI), through its Weekly Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) on Tuesday (9/6), raised the BI-Rate by 25 bps to 5.50 percent. Previously, during the Monthly RDG on 19-20 May 2026, BI had also raised the BI-Rate by 50 bps. Thus, the cumulative BI-Rate increase stands at 75 bps. The BI-Rate hike in May 2026 was the first adjustment after the benchmark rate was held at 4.75 percent since September 2025. Throughout 2025, BI cut the benchmark rate five times with a total reduction of 125 bps. BI is next scheduled to hold its Monthly RDG on 17-18 June 2026.
