BCA Syariah Holds Writing Competition to Encourage Journalists to Highlight Sharia Economy
PT Bank BCA Syariah (BCA Syariah) has officially opened the BCA Syariah Journalist Writing Competition (JWC) 2026. This annual event, which has been held consistently since 2023, once again invites journalists to present various perspectives on Sharia economics and finance through informative, factual, and inspiring journalistic works.
The JWC 2026 kickoff took place at the BCA Syariah Head Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (30/09/2026), opened by the President Director of BCA Syariah, Yuli Melati Suryaningrum. The event included a talk show titled “Reading the Direction and Trends of Sharia Consumer Business in this Economy”.
The discussion featured Dian Masyita, a member of the OJK Sharia Finance Development Committee, and Bukit Mas Siahaan, Head of Retail and Consumer Business Unit at BCA Syariah. They discussed developments in the Sharia finance sector, shifts in consumer needs, public purchasing power, and the opportunities and challenges within Sharia banking consumer business.
Through JWC 2026, themed “Uncovering Sharia Economic Stories, Becoming Inspiring Journalists”, BCA Syariah provides extensive space for journalists to capture the real benefits of Sharia financial services in society’s life. The competition is based on the strategic role of journalists in delivering education regarding Sharia banking and finance to ensure it is accessible, targeted, and easily understood by the public. Public understanding of the flexibility of Sharia banking needs to be expanded, particularly regarding its universal, inclusive, and accessible nature for all segments of society regardless of background.
Therefore, the delivery of accurate and communicative information is crucial. JWC 2026 is directed not only to highlight BCA Syariah but to encourage literacy and the broader development of Sharia banking nationally.
During the talk show, Dian Masyita, member of the OJK Sharia Finance Development Committee, highlighted the importance of technology in the development of Sharia banking. According to her, digital innovation must go hand-in-hand with reliable security systems to build and maintain public trust. “Security of accounts and digitalisation are key advantages. Both are inevitable factors that will influence people’s choices,” said Dian.
Dian also identified opportunities for BCA Syariah’s digitalisation to drive the wider development of Sharia banking, where technology can serve as a primary force in expanding accessibility and service ease.
Regarding market segments, the Head of Retail and Consumer Business Unit at BCA Syariah, Bukit Mas Siahaan, revealed that Generation Z holds very promising market potential for consumer business. By comparison, mortgage (KPR) financing is currently dominated by Millennials at 71.2%, while the portion for Generation Z has only reached 7.4%.
Interestingly, in gold financing products, participation from Generation Z shows a significant increase. “More Gen Z individuals are starting to take up gold financing, with figures around 19%. Therefore, we see an opportunity for a developing market within Generation Z,” explained Bukit.
Observing this demographic shift, digital transformation is the key to facilitating the needs of young customers. BCA Syariah has responded to this need through its BSya mobile banking application, which simplifies processes ranging from opening savings accounts to gold financing investments.
