BCA Introduces QRIS Cross-Border Indonesia-China Feature in myBCA App
The introduction of this service is expected to provide convenience for customers in conducting transactions abroad, while also opening opportunities for merchants to accept payments from foreign tourists. Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BCA) is facilitating Indonesian customers to transact in China using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) Cross Border or cross-border QRIS through the myBCA app and BCA mobile. BCA President Director Hendra Lembong stated that the feature represents the bank’s support for various payment system innovations developed by Bank Indonesia, including QRIS Cross Border. “The presence of this service is expected to provide convenience for customers in transacting abroad, while also opening opportunities for merchants to accept transactions from foreign tourists and strengthening economic and tourism connectivity between Indonesia and China,” he said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Friday. He explained that up to the first quarter of 2026, the total frequency of cross-border QRIS transactions processed by the bank increased by 355 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year (year-on-year/yoy), while the transaction value recorded an increase of 318 per cent yoy. Through this scheme, people can transact abroad without needing to exchange cash. This step also minimises the risk of exchange rate volatility and encourages more efficient trade and investment flows between countries. Currently, the cross-border QRIS service can be used by Indonesians to transact in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and China. Tourists from these six countries can also use the payment system via QR Code in Indonesia by scanning the QR code from BCA’s EDC machines.
