BBWS Mesuji Sekampung collaborates with Indonesian Army to clear weeds

Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - The BBWS Mesuji Sekampung is collaborating with Kodam XXI/Radin Inten in the routine maintenance of the Way Rarem Dam in North Lampung Regency.

“This collaboration is a strategic step in safeguarding vital infrastructure functions, while also supporting food security in the Lampung region,” said the Head of BBWS Mesuji Sekampung, Elroy Koyari, in a statement received in Bandarlampung on Monday.

He explained that the cooperation will involve integrated efforts, ranging from clearing weeds using mechanical equipment such as harvester dredgers, to manually or mechanically removing weeds and sediments with heavy machinery.

“We appreciate the support and participation from the ranks of Kodam XXI/Radin Inten. This synergy is a tangible manifestation of collaboration between the government and the TNI in maintaining national strategic infrastructure,” he said.

Elroy stated that this collaboration is not only technical but also a strategic measure to ensure the Way Rarem Dam continues to function optimally.

“In the future, we hope this collaboration can be further developed more broadly, particularly in adaptive water resource management in response to climate change challenges and community needs dynamics,” he added.

“We also have plans to form a Territorial Infantry Battalion Development Brigade around the dam area,” he said.

He mentioned that this step will certainly strengthen security stability while encouraging economic growth in the Abung Pekurun area and its surroundings.

“Rest assured, the TNI’s presence here is not to hinder community activities, but to support the people in improving their economy to advance further. Because I myself am a native son born in North Lampung who wants to develop my hometown,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Regent of North Lampung, Hamartoni Ahadis, supports the synergy among parties in maintaining regional resilience. Especially since this dam plays a vital role in ensuring water availability for the agricultural sector while driving the community’s economic wheels.

“The North Lampung Regency Government is ready to provide support in dam maintenance. Through close collaboration, we are optimistic that every development programme can run smoothly,” he said.
