Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism has announced that the “BBWI Travel Fair x BINA 2026” event will offer various recommendations that can serve as inspiration for families who want to travel during school holidays.

“We want to invite people to discover new experiences through trips that are closer, more flexible, and still memorable,” said Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana in an official statement confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday.

“BBWI Travel Fair x BINA 2026” will be held at Tunjungan Plaza, Surabaya, East Java from May 15 to 17, 2026 and carries the theme “School Holiday Stories” with the concept of “Kampung Main Indonesia”.

This event is a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and the Indonesian Retail and Mall Tenants Association (HIPPINDO) which brings the Belanja di Indonesia Aja (BINA) program, and is also supported by the Culture and Tourism Office of East Java Province.

The exhibition will be packaged interactively by presenting travel experiences that are close to the daily lives of Indonesian families. The people of Surabaya and East Java can enjoy various traditional games that strengthen family interaction, creative and educational activities for children, immersive destination exploration experiences, to a variety of affordable and flexible tour packages.

This approach is expected to open up new perspectives that meaningful holidays do not always have to be done in far away places or at great expense. Nearby and simple destinations can also provide memorable experiences and create new stories with family.

The Ministry of Tourism together with strategic partners from various sectors, ranging from travel agents, destination operators, transportation, to managers of tourist attractions, will also present a variety of package options and travel inspiration.

Partners include School Tours, Taman Safari Group, Jakarta Aquarium, Enchanting Valley, KidZania, Jatim Park, KAI Group, Borobudur Authority Management Agency (BPOB), Ketapanrame Tourism Village, Banyuwangi Diving School, as well as representatives from the tourism industry from East Java and Karawang.

The Ministry of Tourism also promotes the “New Way to Holiday” campaign to encourage people to enjoy domestic travel with an approach that is more relevant to the needs of today’s families.

The travel options offered range from short escapes, children’s educational tours, intercity road trips, exploring tourist villages, to local cultural and culinary experiences with family.

Widiyanti said that school holidays can be an important moment to get to know Indonesia’s rich culture, nature, and people more closely.

“School holidays can be a moment to get to know Indonesian culture, nature, and people more closely. Often we don’t realize that there are many beautiful places close to us, but have not been explored,” she said.

Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said that the concept of “New Way to Holiday” was presented to answer the changing needs of people who are now more selective in planning expenses, including for travel.

To support easy travel planning, the Ministry of Tourism also presents MaIA, which is an artificial intelligence (AI) based travel platform that helps people find destination inspiration, agenda recommendations, to travel ideas according to family interests and needs.

In addition, the Ministry of Tourism continues to promote various leading Indonesian destinations that can be a choice for family holidays, ranging from Lake Toba, Borobudur Temple, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, to other interesting destinations throughout Indonesia.
