Shares of PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) have rebounded strongly, attracting keen interest from foreign investors. Over the trading period from 4-7 May 2026, BBRI shares soared 9.97% from 3,010 to 3,310. This rise marks a robust recovery after the stock had previously been under pressure and trading at its lowest levels in several years. The upward movement in BBRI shares was propelled by aggressive buying from foreign investors. Throughout the week, foreign investors recorded a net buy of Rp 585 billion in the regular market, the largest of its kind. Technically, the strengthening of BBRI has been accompanied by a surge in trading volume, indicating renewed accumulation. During this week’s trading, BBRI shares even broke through the 3,300 level, which had previously served as a short-term resistance. Next, the 3,450-3,500 range becomes a crucial level to breach in order to confirm the continuation of the rebound. If a valid breakout occurs with high volume, the potential for further strengthening towards 3,800 to 4,000 opens up. This development fosters optimism that the bank, with its focus on SME credit, is regaining the attention of market players, especially after its valuation had fallen significantly from its 2024 peak. With its massive market capitalisation and high liquidity, BBRI remains one of the favourite stocks among foreign institutional investors when the market enters a risk-on phase. For context, throughout the first quarter of 2026, BRI achieved solid credit growth, supported by strengthened low-cost funds (CASA) and improvements in the cost of funds structure. As a result, the bank’s profitability has thickened. As of the end of March 2026, BRI’s total third-party funds reached Rp 1,555 trillion, growing 9.4% year-on-year (yoy). This growth was bolstered by the increasingly dominant performance of CASA. BRI’s CASA stood at Rp 1,058.6 trillion, growing 13.2% yoy. This increase reflects the company’s success in strengthening its low-cost funding base, which is key to cost efficiency amid liquidity competition in the banking industry. In line with this, BRI’s cost of funds (CoF) showed significant improvement, dropping from 3% to 2.3% in Q1 2026. This decline underscores the effectiveness of the CASA strategy in maintaining an efficient funding structure. This strengthening on the funding side also provides room for improved profitability. BRI’s net interest income (NII) grew 11.9% yoy to Rp 40.15 trillion. Additionally, efficiency and funding quality have impacted profitability ratios. Return on assets (ROA) rose from 2.7% to 2.8%, while return on equity (ROE) increased from 17.1% to 18.4%. Ultimately, these achievements are reflected in the company’s bottom line performance. BRI recorded a net profit of Rp 15.5 trillion for Q1 2026, up 13.74% yoy.
