BBPOM Mataram Seizes 591 Illegal Cosmetics and 1,270 Illegal Drugs

The Mataram Centre for Drug and Food Control (BBPOM) uncovered 1,861 illegal products distributed across Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The breakdown includes 1,270 illegal drug tablets and 591 illegal cosmetic items.

Head of BBPOM Mataram, Yogi Abaso, revealed that the thousands of non-compliant products were discovered between January and June 2026. In addition to illegal cosmetics, there were also illegal drug products. The total economic value reached Rp 52.4 million.

Yogi detailed that 1,270 tablets of illegal drugs were secured by BBPOM Mataram, consisting of alprazolam, tramadol, and heximer. “On average, these findings originated from the regions of Central Lombok, East Lombok, West Lombok, and Mataram City, with a total economic value of Rp 15.1 million,” Yogi stated on Wednesday (17/6/2026).

Meanwhile, for illegal cosmetics lacking distribution permits and potentially endangering public health, BBPOM Mataram successfully seized 591 products. These illegal cosmetics were dominated by whitening night creams and hazardous cosmetic packages. On average, these illegal cosmetics were found in West Lombok and East Lombok, with a total economic value reaching Rp 37 million.

“The public needs to be careful in choosing the products they use, ensuring they are registered and have official distribution permits,” he stressed.

“Overall, the total economic value of evidence successfully secured from various cases reached Rp 52,485,000, or Rp 52.4 million. This achievement is proof of BBPOM’s commitment to protecting the public from exposure to illegal and risky products,” he said.

“The public has a very important role in assisting supervision. If you find or suspect the circulation of drugs, food, natural medicines, health supplements, or cosmetics that do not meet regulations, immediately report it to BBPOM so it can be followed up promptly,” he concluded.
