BBMKG detects 13 hotspots across North Sumatra

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region I Medan has detected 13 hotspots across various areas in North Sumatra.

“These hotspots were identified based on monitoring from the Terra, Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA20 satellites,” said BMKG Region I Forecaster Putri Hafiza in Medan on Saturday.

The 13 hotspots are scattered across Dairi, Humbang Hasundutan, South Tapanuli, and North Tapanuli.

In relation to this, the public is advised not to engage in burning activities when clearing land.

Regarding the weather forecast for Sunday (5/7), the morning will be cloudy with the potential for light to moderate rain in parts of North Sumatra, where moderate intensity rain may occur in Mandailing Natal, South Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, and surrounding areas.

From afternoon to evening, there is a potential for light to moderate rain in several regions, with moderate intensity rain likely in Pakpak Bharat, South Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, North Tapanuli, Humbang Hasundutan, Mandailing Natal, Sibolga, and surrounding areas.

At night, light rain is expected to be widespread across North Sumatra, while in the early hours of the morning, light rain is possible in Mandailing Natal, Nias Islands, Padang Lawas, North Padang Lawas, Central Tapanuli, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, and surrounding areas.

Average air temperatures will range from 15 to 32 degrees Celsius, with humidity between 68 and 100 per cent, and winds blowing from the South to the South-West at speeds of 5 to 20 km/h.

“Be alert to the potential for moderate intensity rain that may be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the mountains, eastern slopes, western slopes, and the western coast of North Sumatra, which could lead to hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides,” she added.
