BBMKG detects 13 hotspots across North Sumatra

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BBMKG) Region I Medan has detected 13 hotspots across several areas in North Sumatra. Prakirawan BBMKG Region I Putri Hafiza stated on Saturday that the hotspots were identified based on sensor readings from the Terra, Aqua, SNPP, and NOAA20 satellites. The hotspots are spread across Dairi, Humbang Hasundutan, South Tapanuli, and North Tapanuli. In light of this, the public is urged not to burn land when clearing it. Regarding the weather forecast for Sunday, the morning is expected to be cloudy with potential for light to moderate rain across parts of North Sumatra, with moderate rain likely in Mandailing Natal, South Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, and surrounding areas. In the afternoon and evening, light to moderate rain is expected in several areas, with moderate rain potentially occurring in Pakpak Bharat, South Tapanuli, Central Tapanuli, North Tapanuli, Humbang Hasundutan, Mandailing Natal, and Sibolga. At night, light rain is expected to be evenly distributed across almost all of North Sumatra, and in the early hours, light rain is forecast for Mandailing Natal, the Nias Islands, Padang Lawas, North Padang Lawas, Central Tapanuli, Deli Serdang, Serdang Bedagai, and surrounding areas. Average temperatures will range from 15 to 32 degrees Celsius, with humidity between 68 and 100 percent, and winds blowing from the South to Southwest at speeds of 5 to 20 km per hour. The agency warned of potential moderate rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the mountains, eastern slopes, western slopes, and west coast of North Sumatra, which could trigger hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides.
