`BBC' to build station in Thailand
BANGKOK (AFP): The British Broadcasting Corp. (BBC) will build
a major radio relay station in central Thailand under an
agreement signed yesterday with the Thai government, the BBC
announced.
The agreement signed by Foreign Minister Prasong Soonsiri and
British government officials here calls for construction of a
US$46.2-million station in Nakhon Sawan province, the BBC said in
a statement.
The station will have four 250-watt transmitters that will
broadcast the BBC World Report in up to 10 languages to large
parts of South Asia and the Asia-Pacific regions, it said.
The station is to begin broadcasting before the end of 1996
and be in full operation in mid-1997.
