B'ball all-star game in Surabaya

JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) will hold the 2001 Nuvo Kobatama All-Star Game at the Kertajaya basketball hall in Surabaya on Sunday.

The Perbasi official in charge of the national basketball league, Doeddie Gambiro, said on Tuesday the game would feature 20 players from 10 teams. All of the players were selected by fans during the last two league rounds in Malang, East Java, and Surakarta, Central Java.

"The All-Star Game is being held to entertain basketball fans throughout the nation," he said, adding that the game will be aired live on SCTV at 4 p.m.

He said each participating player would receive Rp 1 million (US$86), and the game's Most Valuable Player would receive an additional Rp 500,000 from sponsor Kratingdaeng.

For the game, Simon Pasaribu from the Satria Muda club and Tjetjep Firmansyah from Aspac Texmaco were respectively named team manager and coach of the ABC Alkaline Western Division squad. Nandang Ruskandar and Dedy Kuskanto of Panasia Indosyntec will serve as manager and coach of the Kratingdaeng Eastern Division side. (ivy)
