Baznas: Zakat lifts 302,994 people out of poverty in 2025
Through the National Zakat Index we not only measure the disbursement of zakat funds, infaq, and alms, but also the system we have and its measurable impact.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of the Republic of Indonesia released data on national zakat management showing it has lifted 302,994 people out of poverty, of whom 113,134 were from the extreme poor group.
This figure accounts for 5.84 percent of the total national poverty alleviation in the year in question. Of the total achievement, Baznas RI directly contributed to lifting 18,035 people out of poverty and achieved a score of 0.57, placing it in the ‘stable’ category on the National Zakat Index (IZN) version 3.0.
“Through the National Zakat Index we not only measure the disbursement of zakat funds, infak, and alms, but also the system we have and its measurable impact. Every rupiah of muzakis’ funds must be accounted for in a Sharia-compliant, professional manner and provide real social and economic change,” said Zainulbahar Noor, the Baznas RI head of Planning, Studies, and Zakat Development, in a Jakarta press release on Wednesday.
He hopes IZN will become more widely known and become an important reference, not only within Baznas but also among government, academics, and other institutions.
Zainulbahar notes that IZN could be used as a consideration in formulating the national Islamic economic development index.
Meanwhile, the Director of ZIS Studies and Development at the National DS(K)L Muhammad Hasbi Zaenal explained that IZN is the only official instrument used by Baznas to map the quality and performance of zakat management across Indonesia.
In 2025 Hasbi stated that the participation rate for completing the IZN reached 426 institutions, the highest since the IZN’s implementation began in 2016.
Hasbi hopes that the 2025 IZN results can become an ongoing evaluation tool and strengthen the role of zakat in accelerating poverty alleviation in Indonesia in 2026 and beyond.
