Tangerang — The National Zakat Collection Agency (BAZNAS) of Tangerang City, Banten, has opened a zakat payment outlet at Terminal 1 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport as one of its strategies to increase collections during Ramadhan.

Aslie Elhusyairy, Head of BAZNAS Tangerang City, said that in addition to the airport, the agency has also opened zakat service outlets at shopping centres, terminals, mosques and district offices.

“Currently there are seven dedicated outlets plus 13 district offices that the community can use to pay their zakat,” he said.

Besides Terminal 1 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, the outlets are also located at Indo Grosir Cikokol and Terminal Poris Plawad, as well as Al-Firdaus Lobby at Puspem Tangerang City, the Tangerang City Public Service Mall, the Tangerang City Civil Registration Office, Al-A’zhom Grand Mosque in Tangerang City, and all district offices across Tangerang City.

He also invited the community to utilise the zakat collection channels provided by BAZNAS Tangerang City, either through a mobile application or at the outlets located in public gathering places.

Elhusyairy hopes that the zakat collected will be distributed to assist the empowerment of vulnerable community groups such as the poor, orphans and the destitute.

BAZNAS Tangerang City is targeting zakat collections of 6.9 billion Indonesian Rupiah during Ramadhan from wealth zakat, infaq and corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. For zakat fitrah specifically, the agency targets collecting approximately 5 billion Rupiah during Ramadhan. Combined with other forms of zakat, this could reach more than 11 billion Rupiah.

“We hope that this year’s zakat collections will exceed our targets, as has been our experience in previous years,” he said.
