Sumedang (ANTARA) - The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Sumedang Regency, West Java, distributed 3,000 basic food parcels to mustahik sourced from zakat of Civil Servants (ASN) within the Sumedang Regency Government.

Baznas Sumedang chair Ayi Subhan Hafas, in Sumedang, on Thursday, said the distribution was carried out to ensure zakat is channelled to the right recipients and has a direct impact on those in need.

“We are distributing this ASN zakat to 3,000 beneficiaries, including volunteers, contract workers, cleaners, and fire brigade personnel who are still classified as mustahik,” he said.

He explained that the recipients are those who have not yet achieved permanent employee status and still fall into the eligible category for zakat and are focused on the nearest communities so that the benefits are more tangible and controllable.

“The zakat funds entrusted by muzakki are not only distributed in the form of consumptive assistance, but also in the form of empowerment programmes so that the recipients can be more self-reliant,” he said.

In addition to the distribution of basic foods, Baznas Sumedang also launched empowerment programmes for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), business capital assistance, free healthcare services, as well as various other social activities during Ramadan.

The aid distribution was carried out in stages with the involvement of volunteers and coordination with related parties to ensure the distribution runs smoothly and in an orderly manner.
