Baznas Strengthens Synergy to Optimise Regional Zakat Governance in Kaur

The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) RI, together with Commission III of the Kaur Regency DPRD, is strengthening synergy to bolster zakat management regulations in Kaur Regency. The aim is to optimise the potential of zakat to have a broader impact on public welfare. Saidah Sakwan, Baznas RI’s head of organisation, institutional affairs, and regional development, stated that zakat management in Kaur Regency still has significant room for growth. She noted that zakat can be an important instrument in helping those in need while supporting poverty alleviation. “The DPRD is the owner of regulations and policies in the region. Strengthening Baznas through regional regulations and grant fund allocations is a very strategic step. The right hand of the local government holds the APBD, and the left hand must have Baitul Maal, which is Baznas. Therefore, Baznas must be supported,” she said, according to an official statement on Monday. Saidah further explained that the total zakat potential in Kaur Regency is estimated at Rp71 billion, derived from community zakat, agricultural zakat, livestock zakat, monetary zakat, and income zakat. She emphasised that Baznas RI is ready to provide full support to the Kaur Regency DPRD in strengthening local regulations. “I entrust one important matter: please pay attention to the people of Kaur. There are still many mustahik in Kaur whose houses are uninhabitable, as well as high-achieving children who are at risk of dropping out of school or failing to attend university due to financial constraints,” Saidah said. Ramadi Agustin, Chair of Commission III of the Kaur Regency DPRD, welcomed the collaboration with Baznas RI to improve zakat management in the district. “We need to explore this potential and the community must also increase their awareness. Especially for civil servants, this is our right and obligation, because 2.5 percent zakat is mandatory to be paid (for those who have reached the nisab),” he stated. He also expressed hope that the campaign for zakat awareness would be intensified so that more people become conscious of their obligation to pay zakat.
