Baznas Scholarship Recipient Wins National Award with Quranic Literacy Programme

A student receiving the Cendekia Scholarship from the National Alms Agency (Baznas) has won third place in a national student writing competition. Zulfan Fajri Hutabarat, a Chemistry Education student at the University of Jambi and a 2025 BCB awardee, achieved the honour at the BKS PTN Barat Student Writing Competition held at Universitas Singaperbangsa Karawang. Zulfan and his team secured the national accolade with a scientific paper entitled ‘Optimising the Role of Tahfiz Houses in Improving Quranic Literacy as an Effort to Eradicate Illiteracy Towards a Quranic Generation in Pematang Raman Village’. The work outlines a strategy for revitalising tahfiz houses in Jambi. ‘This achievement stemmed from a spirit to make a real contribution to education, supported by the Baznas Cendekia Scholarship, and I hope this accomplishment can inspire all awardees to continue bringing honour to Baznas at both national and international levels,’ Zulfan said in a statement on Saturday. He expressed gratitude for Baznas’ support, which he described as a main pillar behind his academic and organisational success. According to Zulfan, the Baznas Cendekia Scholarship is not merely financial assistance but a motivational fuel that encouraged him and his team to dare to innovate for the progress of village communities. ‘We are very proud of Zulfan’s achievement and Baznas will continue to be committed to supporting outstanding young Indonesians so they can keep producing the best works that benefit the ummah,’ he stated. He also emphasised that this achievement is clear evidence of the effectiveness of zakat fund utilisation in cultivating a superior and highly competitive young generation. He expressed hope that this national-scale success would motivate all Baznas Cendekia Scholarship participants to continue making achievements in various fields. ‘May this success ignite the spirit for all BCB awardees across Indonesia to never stop innovating, inspiring, and upholding the good name of Baznas at national and international levels,’ said Idy Muzayyad.
