Baznas RI Strengthens Contribution to Food Security through Livestock Centre
The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) RI is strengthening its contribution to supporting national food security, while also empowering communities through the inauguration of a Livestock Centre in Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).
Baznas RI Chairman Sodik Mudjahid, in a statement in Jakarta on Friday, said the facility located in Pagutan Village is the 59th of a total of 70 locations being developed in various regions.
“We want to ensure that one of Baznas’s main programmes, namely community empowerment through the Livestock Centre in NTB, truly provides benefits, not just pleasing reports, and I can confirm that it does indeed provide benefits,” he said.
Sodik explained that the empowerment programme in Central Lombok involves 30 mustahik livestock farmers who collectively manage 57 Bali cattle, consisting of one bull, 29 brood cows, and 27 young males.
“The assistance includes the construction of pens, feed houses, compost houses, livestock and feed support, as well as strengthening the integrated farming system,” he stated.
Sodik assessed that this integrated intervention is capable of delivering quite significant economic impacts for the assisted farmer groups, both from the main livestock products and other derivative products.
As a sustainability measure, he said, Baznas plans regular monitoring, periodic evaluations, and exploring opportunities to open new livestock sites in NTB based on economic success indicators.
“We also open opportunities for cooperation with various parties to expand market access and support government programmes in meeting community nutrition needs as well as improving village economies,” Sodik Mudjahid added.
