Baznas RI Provides Free Servicing for 5,000 Motorcycles Ahead of Eid al-Fitr Homecoming
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of the Republic of Indonesia is offering free servicing and oil changes for 5,000 motorcycles to help homebound travellers ensure their vehicles are in prime condition during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 mudik season across 43 regencies and cities in Indonesia. A total of 300 mustahik beneficiaries under the Baznas Z-Auto programme, which mentors mustahik micro, small and medium-sized enterprises in the motorcycle workshop sector, were involved in the services. Chair Noor Achmad of Baznas RI, in Jakarta on Thursday, said the programme reflects Baznas’ concern for travellers, particularly low-income communities and ride-hailing motorcycle drivers (ojol) who rely on motorcycles for their livelihoods. ‘Not all available funds can be used for oil changes and servicing. So Baznas’ assistance is very helpful,’ he said. Noor said the mudik period is often accompanied by rising household needs, causing vehicle maintenance to be delayed. In fact, a roadworthy vehicle is a crucial safety factor for long journeys. Accordingly, the programme offers services including light servicing, oil changes, brake checks, tyres, electrical systems, and other light maintenance. Noor also noted the high level of public enthusiasm for the programme. Of the 5,000 slots available, at the launch in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March, the quota had already been filled to nearly half. Saidah Sakwan, Baznas RI’s Head of Distribution and Utilisation, said the programme has two main benefits: improving travellers’ safety so they can return home safely, and empowering Baznas’ Z-Auto mechanics. ‘Baznas cares for the lives of travellers, ibnu sabil. These travellers are ibnu sabil. They are on a journey to foster kinship and to perform birrul walidain (duties to parents), and to be able to pay respects to their parents. Our part is to ensure they depart and return safely,’ she said. In the programme, the mentored mechanics continue to receive customers, while the costs of servicing and oil are borne by Baznas. ‘Z-Auto will attract many customers to be served, but Baznas will pay. So two mustahik meet in happiness. Our mentored mechanics grow their businesses, and beneficiaries are happy because it’s free,’ Saidah said. One beneficiary, Narto (45), an ojol driver from Jelambar, West Jakarta, said he was very helped by the programme. He said the free servicing and oil changes are meaningful amid the high needs ahead of Eid.
