Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Zakat Agency (Baznas) deployed its disaster response team to evacuate residents trapped by flooding in the Financial Complex area of Jalan Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Sunday.

“We have instructed our Baznas Disaster Response team to move quickly to critical points, particularly densely populated settlements experiencing significant water level rises, so that residents receive assistance promptly,” said Saidah Sakwan, Head of Distribution and Empowerment at Baznas RI, in a statement issued in Jakarta on Sunday.

Sakwan explained that Baznas deployed a team consisting of four specialist personnel, supported by one rescue vehicle and water evacuation equipment comprising one rubber inflatable boat equipped with an outboard motor.

She emphasised that protecting human life remained the top priority in this humanitarian operation.

Sakwan stated that the organisation remained committed to keeping personnel on standby as long as extreme weather continued to affect the capital and surrounding areas.

This initiative, she continued, underscores Baznas’s role extending beyond zakat management to include active response during national disaster emergencies.

“Our primary focus today is to ensure vulnerable groups such as elderly residents and children in the Financial Complex are successfully evacuated to safer locations. We have brought complete equipment to ensure the evacuation process runs effectively,” Sakwan said.
