Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Zakat Authority (Baznas) has distributed 225 food aid packages to Palestinians in the Al-Aqsa Mosque area to help communities affected by the conflict and limited food access.

Baznas Chairman Noor Achmad announced in a statement in Jakarta on Friday that the assistance represents a mandate entrusted by the Indonesian people to support their Palestinian brethren.

“Alhamdulillah, the trust placed with Baznas by the Indonesian people has been channelled in the form of food packages for Palestinians. This is a manifestation of the care and solidarity of the Indonesian Islamic community towards our brothers and sisters there,” he said.

Noor highlighted that the unstable situation amid the conflict has restricted food access in several Palestinian regions. This situation makes international assistance vital, particularly during Ramadhan.

He viewed Ramadhan as an opportunity to strengthen Islamic solidarity whilst bringing joy to those in difficult circumstances.

“We hope these food packages can ease the burden on the Palestinian people and bring hope amid their limitations. We want them to feel that they are not alone. Baznas, together with the Indonesian people, will continue to be present in this humanitarian mission,” he stated.

Noor also called on the Indonesian people to continue strengthening global humanitarian solidarity through zakat, infaq, and sadaqah, as it not only strengthens Indonesia but also the world.

“Zakat strengthens not only Indonesia, but also the global humanitarian mission,” said Noor Achmad.
