Baznas RI collaborates with Bappenas to optimise DTSEN for equitable distribution of ZIS

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s National Zakat Collection Agency (Baznas RI) has forged a partnership with the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) to leverage the National Single Social and Economic Data (DTSEN) for optimising the potential of zakat, infaq, and sedekah (ZIS) across Indonesia. Baznas RI Chairman Sodik Mudjahid stated in Jakarta on Saturday that there are numerous highly promising sources of zakat, including government institutions, State-Owned Enterprises/Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMN/BUMD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and Police (Polri), as well as business sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, services, trade, and finance. “In addition, the potential also comes from corporate zakat, religious social funds, and professional zakat from groups including healthcare workers, accountants, lawyers, and creative professionals,” he said. Sodik also highlighted the significant zakat potential from the Indonesian diaspora abroad, deeming the strengthening of Zakat Collection Units (UPZ) at Indonesian diplomatic missions overseas as a strategic step to expand the reach of ZIS collection. Therefore, he emphasised the importance of using DTSEN to ensure that ZIS funds are channelled effectively and to the right targets. “This data covers groups of society that qualify as mustahik and muzaki. With access to this data, it becomes an extraordinary asset for Baznas’s function in mobilising and utilising resources,” stated Sodik Mudjahid. “Bappenas is striving to ensure that the available data can be utilised optimally without violating regulations. The use of DTSEN is fundamentally permissible, and data integration is highly feasible as long as it aligns with clear objectives and legal foundations,” he continued. Rachmat also praised Baznas’s performance, which has shown positive achievements. However, he noted that there is still room for improvement, particularly in optimising the national zakat potential, which has only realised about 10% of the total Rp327 trillion. He added that such improvements need to be pursued gradually, deeming it unrealistic to expect a significant surge in achievements in a short time, though medium-term targets remain achievable. “With the President’s directives, a five-year target of around Rp162 trillion is very feasible, given the vast potential. We (Bappenas) support Baznas in realising the ZIS potential for the welfare of the ummah and the blessings of the nation,” said Rachmat Pambudy.
