Baznas RI and MUI Collaborate to Restore Sumatra through Educational Alms
This assistance may not resolve the problem entirely, but we hope it serves as a stimulus for the general public to ensure they receive serious attention, as private schools in the disaster areas are highly vulnerable.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) RI and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) have officially established a collaboration under the Educational Alms Programme to be distributed to disaster victims, particularly in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.
Baznas RI leader Idy Muzayyad welcomed the partnership between Baznas and MUI, which was inaugurated with an initial alms fund of Rp600 million.
“This Rp600 million will be channelled to Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, focusing on educational costs for victims and schools in those areas affected by disasters,” Idy stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.
His side has the Baznas Disaster Response Team (BTB), while MUI has the Muslim Disaster Rescue, so the collaboration will have a positive impact and bring benefits to the ummah.
Additionally, Idy assessed that this partnership is crucial for strengthening the legitimacy and reach of dakwah in every humanitarian action, so the collaboration is expected not to be limited to disaster programmes alone, but also to other programmes under Baznas.
Meanwhile, MUI Deputy Secretary General for Disaster Affairs Mabroer said the collaboration with Baznas is packaged under the Educational Alms Programme, which specifically targets children of disaster victims and private educational institutions, such as Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs), Madrasah Aliyah (MA), and pesantren that are not state-owned, which often struggle to recover independently after disasters.
Therefore, Mabroer stated that MUI together with Baznas will provide special attention so that these schools can quickly rise from post-disaster hardship.
“We hope that with Baznas, there will be additional donations and they can be channelled soon, so that the benefits can be felt immediately for our children in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra,” Mabroer remarked.
