Baznas RI and BPJPH collaborate on zakat governance and halal product assurance
Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Zakat Agency (Baznas) and the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) have entered into a strategic collaboration on the management of zakat, infaq, sedekah, and other religious social funds (ZIS-DSKL), as well as halal product assurance.
“This collaborative step is an important milestone in our efforts to optimise zakat potential from the civil service apparatus (ASN) and employees in government institutions. We greatly appreciate BPJPH’s commitment, which focuses not only on the halal ecosystem but also demonstrates strong social concern through the integration of a structured ZIS collection system with Baznas,” said Baznas RI Chairman Noor Achmad in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday.
Noor also highlighted the establishment of Zakat Collection Units (UPZ) at BPJPH offices, which are expected to facilitate employees in fulfilling their zakat obligations.
According to him, the synergy between halal certification and zakat management will create blessings that can help alleviate poverty. “With the formation of UPZ at BPJPH, we expand the reach of zakat benefits for mustahik throughout Indonesia. The synergy between halal certification and zakat management will create double blessings. Islamic economics and social justice can proceed hand-in-hand to eradicate poverty,” said Noor Achmad.
Meanwhile, BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hassan emphasised his institution’s full commitment to mobilising the entire halal ecosystem in Indonesia to contribute meaningfully through Islamic philanthropic instruments.
This initiative is planned to involve BPJPH’s extensive network across all regions, including halal auditors, supervisors, and hundreds of thousands of Halal Production Process Facilitators (P3H).
Haikal assured that BPJPH is working to ensure that the economic strength of the halal sector is proportional to the strengthening of social safety nets through zakat, infaq, sedekah, and waqf, via integration with Baznas’s UPZ system.
“Hundreds of thousands of facilitators, tens of thousands of auditors, supervisors, task forces, and even technical implementation units throughout Indonesia. We will channel zakat to strengthen Indonesia; not just zakat, but also sedekah, infaq, and waqf. I will spearhead this movement, which will later be continued by our teams to pay zakat here (at the UPZ), and my name will be the first registered,” said Haikal Hassan.
