Baznas Reaffirms Commitment to Advancing Pesantren Education

The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Indonesia has handed over educational scholarship assistance to a number of students while reaffirming its commitment to continuously support and build synergy with various Islamic boarding schools (pondok pesantren) across Indonesia. The commitment was conveyed by Deputy Chairman of Baznas RI, Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi, while attending the IVth Pondok Pesantren Equality Education Graduation (PKPPS) and Akhirussanah of PKPPS Hamalatul Quran in Jombang, East Java. “Baznas is fully committed to positioning pondok pesantren as strategic partners by channelling aid and programmes that have a direct impact on improving the quality and facilities of religious education,” Zainut explained, according to an official statement on Wednesday (8/7). On that occasion, Baznas also symbolically handed over educational scholarship assistance to 15 selected graduates as a tangible form of concern for the future sustainability of the students. According to Zainut Tauhid, through this educational assistance programme, Baznas is committed to encouraging graduates to pursue higher education in order to have a positive impact on society. “With this long-term mentoring, we are targeting the pesantren equality system to become more advanced and function as a strategic pillar for forging a competent generation of successors who firmly uphold Islamic values,” he said.
