Baznas Provides Social Security for 100,000 Vulnerable Workers
The National Board of Zakat (Baznas) RI is providing social security insurance for 100,000 vulnerable workers, including Quranic teachers, farm labourers, fishermen, scavengers, small-scale traders, and other vulnerable workers spread across Indonesia, through the 2026 Social Security Baznas (JSB) priority programme.
The distribution of this assistance was symbolically handed over by the Chairman of Baznas RI, Sodik Mudjahim, alongside the Deputy for Coordination of Social Welfare Improvement at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Dyah Tri Kumolo Sari, and the President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Saiful Hidayat, in South Tangerang, Banten, on Friday (2/10/2026).
Sodik stated that the JSB 2026 programme provides assistance for BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership, specifically covering Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Benefits (JKM) for a period of six months. The beneficiaries are vulnerable workers who meet the criteria as mustahik, or zakat recipients.
“Zakat should not stop at being assistance to meet daily needs, but can also serve as an empowerment instrument that provides protection for mustahik,” Sodik told Republika on Friday.
He noted that through the JSB 2026 programme, Baznas aims to provide protection to vulnerable workers through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership, particularly for Work Accident and Death Benefits. This protection is expected to help mustahik carry out economic activities more safely.
He added that the JSB programme targets 100,000 vulnerable workers in at least 10 priority provinces. Of that number, 30 per cent of beneficiaries are targeted to come from frontier, outermost, and least developed (3T) regions, while the remaining 70 per cent will come from other regions, taking into account economic vulnerability and zakat recipient criteria.
