Baznas provides competency training for zakat officers across Banten
Tangerang (ANTARA) - The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) held Baznas Strategic Development (BSD) training attended by Baznas leaders across Banten province to improve the competence of zakat administrators, from collection and management through to distribution.
Deputy Chairman of Baznas RI, Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi, explained in Tangerang on Monday that BSD is organised by the Baznas education and training centre so that zakat recipients (mustahik) can become empowered.
According to Zainut, improving the competence of zakat administrators encourages the community to show concern, empathy and awareness in fulfilling their obligation to pay zakat.
“Fostering public awareness to pay zakat,” said Zainut at the Banten Provincial Hajj Dormitory, Grand El Hajj, Cipondoh, Tangerang City.
Meanwhile, Banten Deputy Governor A Dimyati Natakusumah asked the management of the Baznas provincial office in Banten to improve its competence in collecting, managing and distributing zakat as part of efforts to alleviate poverty.
Dimyati said that for Muslims, zakat is the third pillar of Islam. He expressed confidence that Muslims would fulfil their obligation to pay zakat, but noted that the public would judge the competence of those managing it.
“For this reason, Baznas must have a strategy for its collection and distribution,” said Dimyati.
Dimyati hoped that each year Baznas Banten would be able to strengthen its role as zakat administrators. “Increasing its collection, increasing its distribution, and also increasing the benefits for its recipients,” he said.
Wawan said that zakat efforts require more than announcements and appeals; they need proper management. “Administrators with integrity. Clear programmes. Accurate targets. And measurable impact,” he concluded.
