Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Indonesia, representing the country, is promoting the strengthening of an integrated system between zakat, infak, sedekah, and wakaf through digital transformation in fundraising to increase collection and expand social impact for the global Muslim community.

This was conveyed by Deputy I for Collection of Baznas RI, Arifin Purwakananta, at the Global WaqfTech Conference and Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Sunday (12/4). At the international forum, Indonesia, represented by Baznas RI, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening a technology-based zakat and wakaf ecosystem.

“Indonesia believes that strengthening digital fundraising can be a solution to increase zakat and wakaf collection while expanding its social impact, particularly to support various empowerment programmes, including the sustainability of Islamic education,” said Arifin in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In line with this, Arifin explained that the digital transformation includes the utilisation of digital technology, strengthening transparency and reporting systems, and improving donor experience.

“This step is expected to build public trust while increasing community participation,” he stated.

He explained that zakat plays a role as a short-term solution to meet the basic needs of the community, while wakaf is developed as a long-term financing source.

“In its implementation, productive waqf funds are directed towards infrastructure development and strengthening educational institutions, while zakat is focused on expanding access to education for underprivileged communities,” said Arifin.

The idea received a positive response from forum participants. Director of Awqaf Africa, Ibrahim Abdul Mugis, expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s contribution and assessed that the ideas presented by Baznas add value to the development of global digital waqf.
