Baznas NTB donations distributed to help NTT earthquake victims

Mataram (ANTARA) - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) has successfully raised funds amounting to hundreds of millions of rupiah to be distributed to help victims of the earthquake disaster in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Chairman of Baznas NTB Lalu Muhammad Iqbal Murad said the fundraising was carried out through various channels. These ranged from direct approaches to potential donors, fundraising actions at tourist spots and public events, to collection through mosque networks and social media.

“From Baznas RI, through its support to us, it has also reached hundreds of millions and we have brought it to NTT,” he said in Mataram on Tuesday.

He stressed that this humanitarian action is aimed at reducing the impact of trauma and the economic burden borne by survivors at the disaster site.

“We cannot erase the wounds, but at least we can ease the burden of our brothers and sisters in NTT,” Iqbal asserted.

In addition to sending cash, Baznas NTB has also deployed two waves of evacuation and logistics teams. The first team has penetrated the affected zone since Sunday (16/8) carrying crucial equipment such as refugee tents and public kitchen utensils.

Meanwhile, the second wave followed on Sunday evening together with the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government entourage. To penetrate difficult terrain, a fleet of double cabin vehicles and three-wheeled vehicles were also sent to the location.

“The important thing is that the governor yesterday needed three-wheeled vehicles. Baznas has bought them and we brought them to NTT for later evacuation in small, narrow areas,” he explained.

Iqbal also clarified issues regarding donation obligations for civil servants. He stressed that all fundraising activities are carried out on a voluntary principle without coercion or specific nominal targets.

“The collection of aid is voluntary. Civil servants or members of the public who wish to help are welcome to give donations according to their ability,” said Iqbal.

Furthermore, he said all personnel deployed are projected to serve for 10 days in the field.

“The scheme includes six days of operational disaster response action at the affected location, as well as four days allocated for the round trip between NTB and NTT,” he said.
