Baznas mobilises aid for M7.7 earthquake victims in NTT
The National Alms Agency (Baznas) of Indonesia is mobilising emergency aid and health services for earthquake victims in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as part of its humanitarian commitment during the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence.
Baznas Chairman Sodik Mudjahid explained in Jakarta on Wednesday that the earthquake response in NTT continues to be strengthened through the distribution of basic food packages, meals, refugee tents, health services, special care for mothers and children, and repairs to public facilities such as schools, mosques, and sanitation facilities.
“This is part of our devotion to Allah, part of our devotion to our fellow countrymen. May Allah record it as our gratitude for the independence He has bestowed upon the Indonesian nation,” he said.
Sodik explained that the emergency response following the earthquake on Saturday (15/8) was carried out by deploying Baznas Disaster Response (BTB) personnel and Baznas Healthy Homes (RSB) to Labuan Bajo to establish command posts, public kitchens, and distribute logistical aid in Reo Village, Manggarai Regency.
He also called on the public and donors to support the handling of earthquake victims through infaq, sadaqah, and donations to accelerate the recovery process in NTT.
“We hope that our teams already in NTT will receive support and trust from muzaki, munfiq, and donors to continue providing their sadaqah, infaq, and donations to our teams who have been operating in NTT since yesterday,” said Sodik Mudjahid.
Separately, the Indonesian government affirmed its commitment to accelerating emergency response and post-earthquake recovery following the M7.7 quake that struck the Flores region.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno stated that the presence of ministers and agency heads in NTT since the first day of the incident reflects the government’s concern and commitment to supporting affected communities.
“Since the first day of the incident we have been in NTT to inspect the field and discuss accelerating recovery,” said the Coordinating Minister.
