BAZNAS Launches the Berkah Kurban Programme to Empower Villages 2026
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDAR LAMPUNG — The National Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) has again launched the Berkah Kurban Programme to Empower Villages in 2026. This aims to make the kurban sacrifice not merely an annual ritual, but also an instrument for sustainable community economic empowerment.
Through this programme, BAZNAS empowers mustahik livestock farmers in various regions. One example is the Balai Ternak BAZNAS Lampung Tengah, located in Seputih Raman District, Central Lampung Regency, Lampung Province.
The programme constitutes a model of livestock-based economic empowerment that integrates economic, social, spiritual, and digital technology aspects.
Balai Ternak BAZNAS Lampung Tengah has been operating since 14 September 2019 and spread across three villages: Rukti Endah, Rama Yana, and Rejo Asri. The programme initially trained four livestock groups: Rambon Asri, Barokah Mendho, Langgeng, and Lumintu.
Idy Muzayyad, head of BAZNAS RI’s Distribution, Utilisation, and Empowerment Sector, said that the kurban programme developed by BAZNAS is a tangible form of how zakat and kurban can elevate the welfare of rural communities in a sustainable manner.
“Kurban is not merely an annual act of worship, but an instrument for empowering the economy of the ummah. When communities donate through BAZNAS, they do not only assist the beneficiaries of kurban meat, but also empower mustahik breeders to become economically independent,” he said on Friday (22 May 2026).
He explained that BAZNAS continues to strengthen the rural livestock ecosystem through intensive mentoring, institutional strengthening, provision of production facilities, and access to markets.
“Our target is not merely for breeders to survive, but to move up a level from mustahik to muzaki,” he added.
Indra Sofwatama, chair of the Balai Ternak Lampung Tengah Cooperative, said that the Balai Ternak programme has brought about major changes for village communities, particularly in terms of welfare. This ranges from the ability to send children to university to building better homes.
