Baznas Launches Nationwide Amil Certification Scholarship Programme
The National Alms Agency (Baznas), through its Professional Certification Institute (LSP), has launched the 2026 National Amil Certification Scholarship Programme as an effort to improve the quality and professionalism of human resources managing zakat in Indonesia. The scholarship programme targets amil zakat in eight Indonesian provinces, including Bengkulu, Lampung, Bangka Belitung, Bali, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Maluku, and Southeast Sulawesi, with a target of 200 participants. Through the scholarship programme, participants have the opportunity to undergo a competency certification process with a qualification scheme in three areas of zakat management free of charge.
The launch of the National Amil Certification Scholarship Programme was held online on Wednesday (10/6), attended by Deputy Chairman of Baznas RI Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi, Head of LSP Baznas Muhammad Choirin, and the scholarship participants. Zainut stated that the launch of the Competency Certification Scholarship Programme is a manifestation of Baznas’s commitment to accelerating the improvement of the quality of zakat human resources as well as the implementation of Baznas Regulation Number 2 of 2018 concerning Amil Zakat Certification.
“Strengthening amil capacity is part of the endeavour to ensure zakat, infak, and sedekah funds are managed professionally. In order for the enormous potential of zakat to be managed optimally, transparently, and accountably, it is absolutely necessary to have amil who are not only of high integrity but also have well-standardised competencies,” Zainut stated.
Zainut explained that the importance of standardising amil competency is also mandated in Law Number 23 of 2011 Article 11 and Presidential Regulation Number 14 of 2014 Article 7, which affirm that amil zakat must possess competency in the field of zakat management. All financing for the competency certification scholarship programme comes from Baznas’s support through the fisabilillah fund scheme. According to him, the use of fisabilillah funds to enhance amil capacity is a strategic step because zakat managers are at the forefront of strengthening the pillars of the Islamic economy and realising the benefit of the people.
Furthermore, Zainut said that the competency standardisation is not merely a formality on paper, but proof that an amil possesses adequate knowledge, skill, and attitude, thereby capable of generating greater public trust from the community and muzaki. “Our shared hope is that this programme can achieve its objectives, namely aligning the standards for implementing duties in the field, ensuring amil receive professional recognition for their dedication, and maintaining the consistency of these competencies in the long term,” he said.
Meanwhile, Head of LSP Baznas Muhammad Choirin stated that the National Amil Certification Scholarship Programme is an endeavour to maximise the competence, skills, abilities, and dedication of amil so they can develop optimally. According to Choirin, strengthening amil competency is one of the best investments for the future of national zakat. “When amil become more professional, dedicated, and competent, the national zakat ecosystem will become stronger and more sovereign. Public trust in zakat management institutions will also increase. Thus, Indonesia’s zakat potential, which has been cited as very large, will increasingly be realised and utilised for the welfare of the people,” he stated.
