The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) reported that it has empowered 2,089 needy livestock farmers across 15 provinces during the Idul Adha 1447 Hijriah/2026 Gregorian period. Baznas Chairman Sodik Mudjahid stressed that the livestock centres programme is part of the agency’s commitment to using the Kurban ritual as an economic empowerment tool while strengthening rural community welfare. ‘The 2026 Kurban Berkah Berdayakan Desa initiative delivers dual benefits: ensuring meat distribution reaches eligible recipients for food security while also providing sustainable economic impact for livestock farmers,’ Sodik stated in Jakarta on Wednesday. Sodik said that throughout 2026, Baznas has prepared 3,359 local male livestock animals managed directly by 2,089 supported farmers across various regions, with total fund disbursement reaching Rp39,221,779,338. He added that Baznas plans to increase the number of supported farmers beyond 2,089 and expand livestock centres from the current 103 locations to meet future sacrificial animal demands. ‘Further expansion locations will be assessed in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, to help alleviate poverty,’ he said.
