The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) and the Majalengka Regency Government are exploring a strategic synergy to realise the economic independence of mustahik (zakat beneficiaries) by optimising the potential of mosques. Baznas official Sodik Mudjahid stated in Jakarta that the Microfinance Baznas (BMM) programme is ready to be accelerated in Majalengka due to the region’s strong ecosystem of Zakat Collection Units (UPZ) that extends to the mosque level. “Of the 13 priority programmes, the closest one to be implemented is the mosque-based microfinance programme. We hope Majalengka can become a national model for mosque-based community economic development,” he said. He added that funding is available, but the legal aspect requires the establishment of cooperatives within the Dewan Kemakmuran Masjid (DKM). Majalengka Regent Eman Suherman expressed his appreciation and readiness, stating that the local government is prepared to align its policies and budget to support Baznas’s strategic programmes and act as a pioneer for the initiative.
