Baznas Establishes Livestock Centre to Empower Mustahik in Kendal
Jakarta - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) has officially launched the Livestock Centre Programme in Kalirejo Village, Kangkung District, Kendal Regency, Central Java, to empower mustahik through livestock businesses.
Baznas Board Member for Digitalisation, Finance, and Operations Mokhamad Mahdum stated that this productive zakat programme aims to transform the economy of beneficiaries, ultimately enabling them to own independent businesses and assist others.
Mahdum noted that the programme, targeting 30 mustahik farmers from the Rejoagung Livestock Group with a total fund of Rp836,079,000, serves as a pilot for pentahelix collaboration between Baznas, local government, and the community to stimulate regional economic growth.
He explained that the Livestock Centre implements an integrated farming system concept, combining superior crossbred sheep cultivation, upstream-to-downstream compost fertiliser production, and a fattening business for sacrificial animals and daily sales.
He therefore urged Kendal residents to channel their zakat, infak, and sedekah through official institutions so that the funds can be managed into various productive business programmes with tangible impact.
To ensure programme sustainability, the Kendal Regency Government is committed to providing regular mentoring and monitoring, as well as encouraging farmers to process waste manure into packaged organic fertiliser to supply the central agricultural areas surrounding the location.
Dyah Kartika Permanasari expressed hope that the initiative would expand beyond goat farming to include other business development ventures.
