Baznas establishes 16 humanitarian service posts to assist NTT earthquake survivors
The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) has responded swiftly to the earthquake disaster in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) by establishing 16 service posts in several affected areas to accelerate the handling of earthquake survivors’ needs.
Baznas Chairman Sodik Mudjahid said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday that the service posts are part of Baznas’ humanitarian response to ensure affected communities receive assistance quickly and appropriately according to needs on the ground.
“What we are striving for is that people continue to receive their basic needs while in an emergency situation. Therefore, our services are designed to adapt to the conditions and needs at each location,” he said.
Sodik outlined the various services available through these posts, ranging from health services, communal kitchens, water stations, to emergency mosques. These services are spread across several earthquake-affected areas, including Manggarai, Ngada, Nagekeo, Ende, and East Manggarai regencies.
He said Baznas’ response does not only focus on distributing logistical aid, but also ensures that survivors’ basic needs continue to be met during the emergency period.
“The communal kitchens and water stations are also intended to help people obtain food and clean water. Meanwhile, health services are provided to help monitor and treat survivors’ health conditions, particularly residents at evacuation sites who require examinations or medical treatment,” he explained.
Sodik said Baznas has also established emergency mosques in several locations, which are expected to provide space for residents to worship amid post-disaster conditions.
He added that Baznas, through its Disaster Response Team (BTB) and Baznas Healthy Homes (RSB), continues to strive to provide the best services for earthquake survivors.
“Baznas services may also continue to expand; we will keep moving according to needs on the ground. Hopefully this effort can ease the burden of our brothers and sisters affected by the earthquake in NTT,” said Sodik Mudjahid.
