Baznas Empowers Mustahik in Banyumas Through Chicken Farming Programme
The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) of the Republic of Indonesia has strengthened its efforts to eradicate extreme poverty in Banyumas Regency through the launch of the Independent Women through Chicken Farming (Permata) programme in Cilongok Sub-district, Banyumas Regency.
This affirmation was conveyed by Deputy Chairman of Baznas RI, Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi, whilst accompanying a working visit by the Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, to the area.
Zainut Tauhid said the commitment was realised through the implementation of the “Independent Women through Chicken Farming (Permata)” programme, worth Rp194,840,000, targeting 30 women-headed households in Cilongok Sub-district, Banyumas Regency, Central Java.
“We affirm Baznas’s full commitment to supporting the government’s programme to accelerate the eradication of extreme poverty in Banyumas, which has a fairly high concentration of poor residents,” Zainut explained in a written statement on Thursday (9/7).
He also explained that this empowerment programme is reinforced by Baznas Banyumas Regency, which has allocated a companion budget of Rp240 million for the provision of working capital through to incubator machines in 12 other villages.
Furthermore, Zainut expressed hope that this Elba chicken farming programme can help housewives achieve economic independence whilst sustainably strengthening their families’ food security.
“We are very optimistic that this cross-sector synergy can serve as an example of an applicable and easily replicated economic engine, thereby bringing concrete welfare improvements to the wider community,” he said.
Baznas and HIPKA have established a strategic partnership through a memorandum of understanding on the management of ZIS-DSKL to strengthen the economic empowerment of mustahik and economic self-reliance.
The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that Baznas plays a strategic role in supporting government programmes, particularly in the eradication of extreme poverty and community empowerment in the regions.
President Prabowo Subianto has called for the use of the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN) to be strengthened for government policy.
The joint programme between the Ministry of Social Affairs and Baznas will henceforth be guided by DTSEN as the government’s reference in carrying out social interventions.
Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar announced that extreme poverty had fallen to 0.78% as of September 2025, although 774,000 first-decile families have yet to be reached by the programme.
