Baznas empowers Lamongan mustahik livestock farmers to supply sacrificial animals

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Indonesia is promoting the economic empowerment of mustahik by supplying sacrificial animals for Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijriah from farmers trained under the Ar-Rohmah Livestock Centre Programme Group in Gandang Hamlet, Lamongan, East Java.

Baznas RI Chairman Sodik Mudjahid, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, said the Livestock Centre Programme in Lamongan has shown good progress in recent years, making it suitable as one of the suppliers of sacrificial animals in the Kurban Berkah Berdayakan Desa Programme by Baznas.

“We are very grateful that the livestock centre nurtured by Baznas in Lamongan has successfully developed the assistance provided by Baznas. The increase in the number of livestock, the quality of maintenance, and readiness to meet sacrificial animal standards are the reasons we have selected the Lamongan Livestock Centre to supply sacrificial animals,” he said.

Sodik stated that the Livestock Centre Programme is part of Baznas’s efforts to transform mustahik into muzaki, particularly in rural areas with potential for livestock sector development.

“The Kurban Berkah Berdayakan Desa Programme for 2026 has dual benefits, where Baznas ensures the distribution of sacrificial animals is not only on target for mustahik to meet meat food needs, but also provides sustainable economic impact for mustahik farmers,” he said.

Sodik emphasised that in the future, Baznas will continue to expand and develop community empowerment programmes, including Livestock Centres, so that more mustahik farmers can be assisted and improve their economic status.

Parianto explained that from a marketing perspective, the group’s livestock products are now widely absorbed for local needs up to the Baznas sacrificial programme.

“For this year, we received a quota of around 80 animals from Baznas, and our total readiness can reach about 120 animals for Eid al-Adha. This is a blessing for us,” he revealed.

Furthermore, he said the Baznas Livestock Centre Programme in Gandang Hamlet has successfully encouraged mustahik to become more independent and productive, to the point that some of them can now set aside part of their income for charity.

“We hope in the future we can become muzaki. Thank you Baznas and muzaki,” Parianto stated.
