Baznas Empowers Grocery Stores in Purworejo through Zmart Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) RI has introduced the Zmart economic empowerment programme, a business assistance initiative for grocery stores targeted at mustahik in Purworejo Regency, Central Java.
The programme targets 40 mustahik as beneficiaries, with a total aid value of Rp320 million, comprising Rp240 million from Baznas RI and Rp80 million from Baznas Purworejo Regency.
“We supplement their stock, improve their shops, provide guidance, and teach them simple management so that the capital from the stall does not trickle away into household expenses,” said Deputy II of Baznas RI for Distribution and Utilisation, Imdadun Rahmat, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Imdadun stated that, in addition to capital support, the Zmart managers in Purworejo are also equipped with training in soft skills and hard skills for entrepreneurship.
“Small stalls naturally experience ups and downs. Therefore, it is Baznas’s duty to encourage them not to decline but to continue developing. For this reason, we support them with the Zmart programme,” said Imdadun.
He also warned that the business capital must be strictly maintained and not used for family consumptive purposes.
“I give a stern warning: it is haram for these men to take from the mothers’ capital to buy cigarettes. Do not let the capital trickle into the kitchen, let alone become cigarettes. We will continue to provide guidance so that the mustahik can advance and develop, from having their hands below today to having their hands above tomorrow, becoming muzaki,” Imdadun emphasised.
The programme is described as a strategic instrument to stimulate the economy at the settlement level, in line with Purworejo’s vision of being competitive and prosperous.
“Certainly, we, the Regent of Purworejo, hope that these stalls, especially the managers, can develop well. That means the capital provided should not be squandered bit by bit until it runs out. This is a good opportunity for you, especially with the upcoming guidance, shop improvements, and stock monitoring,” said the Secretary of Purworejo Regency, Suranto.
It is known that the Zmart Programme is part of Baznas’s contribution to supporting the third Astacita of the Indonesian President’s government regarding the strengthening of the people’s economy.
By March 2026, there are already 5,551 Zmart units spread across 34 provinces throughout Indonesia, with 720 units in Central Java, as a concrete effort to eradicate extreme poverty.
